Chapter London Bridge on Weston Street in London Bridge SE1.

The 39-storey, 453 ft (138m) tower designed by architect Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates will comprise 905 student beds and 15,000 sq ft of world-class amenity space.

The energy-efficient tower will offer professional management and state-of-the-art features, supporting environmental sustainability and social inclusion. It is designed to be 100% electric, with a 100% certified renewable energy supply and rooftop solar. It will also leverage modern methods of construction, minimising emissions from transport, concrete waste, and water usage on site. The project aims to achieve a BREEAM rating of “Excellent” and a five-star Global Real Estate Sustainability (“GRESB”) score.

Blackstone Mortgage Trust (NYSE: BXMT) provided construction financing for the project.

History

2018 Nov - The amendments to the planning application (18/AP/0900) were submitted to London Borough of Southwark in November 2018 following the second public exhibition on 17th and 20th October 2018. The amended scheme includes a 20m reduction in height (153m to 133m)
and green walls.

March 2018 - Planning apllication submitted for: Redevelopment of the site to include the demolition of Capital House and the erection of a 39-storey building (3 basement levels and ground with mezzanine and 38 storeys) of a maximum height of 137.9m (AOD) to provide up to 905 student accommodation units (Sui Generis use), flexible retail/café/office floorspace (Class A1/A3/B1), cycle parking, servicing, refuse and plant areas, public realm improvements and other associated works incidental to the development.
