The Peninsula London
Key Details
Overview
The Peninsula London at 1-5 Grosvenor Place is a new development in Hyde Park Corner, London SW1.
The new building will replace the existing 1950s and 1960s offices with a high-quality hotel and 26 residential apartments as well as 189 guest rooms and a spa. The Peninsula London hotel will include shops, bars, restaurants and a ballroom.
The Peninsula Residences London
- 26 apartments designed by Peter Marino Architects for sale through Strutt & Parker.
- Private porte-cochère
- 24-hour porter and concierge
- 25m swimming pool
- Gym & Spa treatment rooms
- Residents lounge and boardroom
- Valet parking
- Access to The hotel services including in-residence dining and housekeeping
- Private access from Halkin Street.
The design is inspired by the area's heritage, befitting one of London's most celebrated addresses. A grand pedestrian entrance on Grosvenor Place will be accessed from a colonnade linking through the Lobby to a ‘Palazzo-style' courtyard, approximately 30 x 30 metres in size, which offers the facility for off-road vehicular access and concealed drop-off from Grosvenor Crescent.
Plans also include improved public spaces in Grosvenor Place, Halkin Street and Grosvenor Crescent, with wider footpaths and new trees planted along Halkin Street and Grosvenor Crescent. Working alongside Westminster City Council and TfL, the scheme also hopes to improve pedestrian access across Grosvenor Crescent and Grosvenor Place. The improved public areas are designed by BDP, a major international practice of architects, designers and engineers.

History
2020 March - The revised budget for the project has increased from the previously reported £650 million to approximately £800 million, reports The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels. The increase in the budget can be attributed to an increase in the size of the hotel as they added an additional basement level as well as enhanced functional areas; additional costs associated with mitigating the supply chain from Brexit risks; unfavourable foreign currency movements relative to the British Pound; higher residential development costs (partially offset by higher residential sales values); and general cost pressures as the market in London for certain construction trades remains tight.
2019 June - Topping-out ceremony.
2017 Summer - construction starts on site.
2016 - HSH assumed 100% ownership of the project by buying out our equity partner Grosvenor for an additional cash consideration of £107.5 million. Grosvenor will remain as the landlord under the 150-year lease.
Prime Development was officially named as Development Manager for the prestigious Peninsula Hotel & Residences development project at 1-5 Grosvenor Place in October 2016.
2013 - The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels Limited purchased a 50% interest in the lease of 1-5 Grosvenor Place in Belgravia, central London, for a cash consideration of £132.5 million.
