The new entrance in Harrods designed by Make Architects has won a Silver Award at London Design Awards 2016.

It was one of the most complex refurbishments to a Grade II* listed building ever attempted - 16 sets of nickel bronze-clad escalators and a new glass dome. The old hall at Hans Crescent was constructed in 1939 and until recently housed a tired series of escalators installed circa 30 years ago.

"Building this future heritage has allowed us to work with many craftspeople and artisans in and around the capital, from intricate fibrous plasterers in Sunbury-on-Thames to fluted glass experts in Croydon and glass dome specialists in Iver," said Ian Lomas, Project Architect at Make.

The London Design Awards is organised by design100 a global community of 75,000 design experts that celebrate creative courage, recognise design excellence and grow demand for design. In total 44 Gold Awards and 60 Silver Awards were recognised this year in the multi-disciplinary awards program across categories from architecture and interior design to digital, product and service design.
