Notting Hill Housing will be providing more than 120 extra affordable homes on the first phase of the Aylesbury regeneration after Southwark Council agreed the plans on Tuesday 9th May 2017.

A new report approved by the council’s Cabinet members revealed there would be a slight variation to the tenure split on the areas known as Plot 18 – where the council is building a new library, public open space, health centre and early year’s centre – and the First Development Site (FDS).

In order to deliver the public facilities as soon as possible, some of the affordable housing allocation has been moved from Plot 18, although there will still be 23 affordable homes for over 55s. Instead, the amount of affordable housing on the FDS will increase so that there will actually be more affordable housing overall across the two sites.

Cllr Mark Williams, cabinet member for regeneration and new homes, commented: “We are completely committed to delivering our promises to the residents of the Aylesbury, this includes 50% affordable homes and a genuinely mixed community on the Aylesbury estate. To bring forward the delivery of the new homes we are moving some of the affordable housing to the first phase of delivery, overall there will be both more social housing and more shared ownership homes to help people get onto the property ladder.

Mick Booth, Assistant Director of Regeneration at Notting Hill Housing said: “Being able to reduce the numbers of homes for private sale in order to provide 121 more affordable homes than planned, including an increase in numbers for social rent, in the early phases of the regeneration is a great boost to Notting Hill Housing’s commitment to Southwark Council, and to the Aylesbury residents who will benefit. We are looking forward to starting construction at the beginning of 2018 and welcoming families into new, high-quality affordable homes from 2020.”
