The Cadogan

The reopening of The Cadogan Hotel will take place on Friday 1st February 2019, under the management of Belmond.

The Belmond Cadogan Hotel preserves a London legend, sensitively restoring five nineteenth-century Queen Anne-style buildings. The 54 room hotel will open in early 2019 as the brand’s first London property, following a three-year restoration – joining Belmond’s other iconic properties such as the Cipriani in Venice, Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire and the Orient Express.

The property will celebrate Chelsea past and present. Uniforms will be inspired by 1960’s London and the Kings Road. Designs see peter-pan collars and strong check prints, a nod to Mary Quant and other designers who made their mark in the local area and beyond. Botanical prints, inspired by the gardens, will be used as part of the housekeeping uniform design. The restaurant space features original Prince of Wales feather detailing, a cheeky nod to the Prince who was associated with actress and socialite Lillie Langtry, a former resident of the hotel. Quirky details in the bedrooms include butterflies in each mini bar (in celebration of botanist Sir Hans Sloane) and mini-libraries, reflecting the property’s literary heritage (it was also Oscar Wilde’s pied a terre).

The interiors reflect modern British style with a contemporary feel, drawing inspiration from the hotel’s original features. Working fireplaces throughout provide a warm embrace, original wood panelling has been kept on the ground and first floors and restored stained glassed windows can be found in the Tea Lounge.

All of the culinary offerings will be overseen by Executive Chef, award-winning ‘rising star’ Adam Handling. Adam’s vision will reflect his sustainable approach and showcase ‘Best of British’, taking inspiration from the building’s illustrious cultural history, in tandem with his Modern British approach and zero-waste ethos.

Belmond was recently crowned ‘British Luxury Brand of the Year’ at the Walpole British Luxury Awards and acquired this month by LVMH (joining a portfolio including other prestigious names such as Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Fendi and Celine).

Hugh Seaborn, Chief Executive, Cadogan commented: “The Cadogan has a colourful history – and a wonderful future. With its depth of experience overseeing the sensitive renovation of historic buildings and track record in luxury hospitality, Belmond is the perfect partner for us to preserve The Cadogan’s unique heritage, while evolving the hotel into a true retreat for today’s luxury traveller. It fits perfectly with Sloane Street’s international cachet and our vision and strategy for ensuring it becomes the most exclusive and luxurious shopping street in the world.”
