One Nine Elms

Careys Civil Engineering is helping to transform the face of Battersea, London by contributing to the monumental One Nine Elms project.

They are delivering substructure works for the development’s 43-storey River Tower and 56-storey City Tower, due to become one of the tallest residential skyscrapers in Europe.

Careys Civil Engineering was appointed by principal contractor, Multiplex, to construct the three-level basements at both buildings – using the innovative top-down construction method. Currently, we are operating 12m below ground level, delivering level-two excavation services from the River Tower towards the City Tower.

Despite the challenges presented by this project, Careys have achieved major milestones, such as successfully completing the repair of the 1.6m diameter Victorian brick sewer with a 70m steel liner, after months of planning and delivery.

This year, the team will carry out two 4,000m3 concrete pours for the foundations of both towers.
