Sky Terrace Designs Revealed

Canary Wharf’s first residential building 10 Park Drive has just revealed the designs for the 13th-floor Sky Terrace.

Sky Terrace, designed by Townshend Landscape Architects, offers a variety of flexible spaces that provides the ideal place to unwind and relax.

The fully-landscaped space on the 13th-floor provides a secluded oasis in the heart of Canary Wharf, with far-reaching views from the Docklands in the east to the City and beyond to the west.

The Sky Terrace comprises different formal and informal spaces or ‘rooms’, distinguished by the formality of the flooring. The flooring is a mix of warm stone paving, great for soaking up the sun and relaxed wooden decking, that creates meandering trails through overhanging planted greenery. The overhanging planting gives the effect that the rambling trails are gently hovering above the bed of manicured planting.

The planting offers a contrasting mix of evergreen hedges, climbers, lush grasses and flowering trees which will provide greenery in both winter and summer. The evergreen hedges and climbers frame the individual spaces, whilst the other layered planting gradually increases in height to act as further dividers. The layered planting ranges from shorter, beautifully scented Lilly of the Valley, to medium perennials such as soft Tufted Hair Grass and taller perennials including intricate Silver Sage.

Set within each area there is a variety of fixed and moveable furniture that gives the Sky Terrace a number of different uses. Moveable armchairs, sofas and coffee tables offer useable space for residents to work, read or just get their daily dose of vitamin D. Whereas more permanent benches, tables and chairs, as well as a covered pergola, offers residents the ability to hold meetings, dinner parties or share a drink whilst watching the sun go down across The City. Residents at the landmark new development on Wood Wharf will have access to this secluded terrace with bookable facilities and free use of shared spaces, forming the ultimate residents’ club in the summer months.

Brian De’ath, Director of Residential Sales at Canary Wharf Group, said: “The ability to access private outdoor space is a growing need among purchasers and the Sky Terrace at 10 Park Drive goes a long way to deliver that. We wanted to design an area that residents would actively engage with and want to use.

“The mix of planting and places to sit and relax means that those living at the development have somewhere they can enjoy and get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The terrace has been one of the most popular aspects of the development, with a number of buyers showing a real desire to use the space on a regular basis.”

Carola Enrich, Senior Associate at Townshend Landscape Architects, commented: “We wanted to create a space that wasn’t just another terrace. It had to be somewhere that residents would want to use and feel as though they could enjoy a natural environment. This is why we have included a mixture of flooring and walkways through the landscaped elements.

“It is important for people to have an outside space they can engage with and that transports them away from the day-to-day, which can be a difficult proposition in a busy city, but with the design here we hope we have captured that and created something truly unique.”

Over 80% of apartments have been sold at 10 Park Drive and the remaining homes include studios, one, two and three-bedroom apartments. One-bedroom apartments at 10 Park Drive start from £880,000.
