Topped out

A ‘topping out’ ceremony took place at Tower Hamlets new Town Hall site on Friday 14th May 2021, marking Bouygues UK completing the highest structural point of the building.

The new Town Hall is being built on the site of the former Royal London Hospital on Whitechapel Road which has been vacant since 2013.

John Biggs, Mayor of Tower Hamlets, commented: “Our new Town Hall will bring the historic Royal Hospital site in Whitechapel back into community use, so once again the 250 year old building will serve the people of Tower Hamlets. Reaching this milestone now shows the project is making good progress, so we are on track to make the savings this project will deliver, as well as provide a fantastic new space for residents to access services.”

Gerald Farque, Bouygues UK Managing Director, added: “Topping out this prestigious London landmark is an important milestone we are proud to be commemorating with Tower Hamlets. We have built an excellent working partnership with the borough through the many projects we have delivered and have always worked hard to support their social value objectives through our engagement programme with the local community, supply chain and education providers.”
