Planning permission granted

72 Upper Ground, the redevelopment of the former London ITV studios, has been granted planning permission by London Borough of Lambeth.

The mixed-use development designed by Make will deliver office space, alongside new cafes and restaurants, cultural uses, pedestrian routes and green spaces.

The scheme by developer Mitsubishi Estate, working with development manager CO—RE, the commercially-led, mixed-use, all-electric scheme is targeting net zero operational carbon, BREEAM Outstanding and WELL Platinum.

Frank Filskow at Make commented: “The design is a direct response to the unique character of the South Bank. It will create a better place for people to work and visit, with new public realm that connects into the South Bank, riverfront cafes, a rooftop restaurant with outdoor terrace, all accessible to the general public.”

Yuichiro Shioda at Mitsubishi Estate added: “Not only will 72 Upper Ground create world-class workspace, it will benefit the whole community through introducing new open spaces, public realm, retail as well as arts and cultural offerings to the South Bank.”

Stephen Black at CO—RE commented: “72 Upper Ground will be a great addition to the South Bank’s current cultural offering, bringing new workspace, jobs and investment to one of London’s most famous destinations. Our scheme will transform the site into a place where creative organisations can thrive.”

The project is expected to complete in 2026.

Lambeth Council meeting took place on Tuesday 30 March 2022. Planning application re. no. 21/02668/EIAFUL.
