Mitcham, Wimbledon, Merton, and Morden merged to establish the London Borough of Merton in 1965. It is an outer London borough bordering the boroughs of Croydon, Kingston, Lambeth, Sutton, and Wandsworth to the south west of central London. It is made up of 20 wards and covers an area of around 14.7 square miles, with a population of slightly over 208,000 people living in 84,000 apartments.
