Alison Nimmo from ODA appointed as new Crown Estate chief executive.

Alison Nimmo CBE, FRICS, will take up the position of the new chief executive from 1 January 2012, taking over from Roger Bright CB, who steps down at the end of the year.

Alison is currently Director of Design and Regeneration at the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) where she has, for the past five years, held responsibility for delivering the overall design and early delivery of most of the venues, Olympic Park and long term legacy for the London 2012 games.

Alison's previous roles have included: a central role in the London 2012 bid team and interim Director leading the establishment of the Olympic Delivery Authority; Chief Executive of Sheffield One, a seminal city centre regeneration programme for Sheffield; and Project Director of Manchester Millennium Ltd responsible for the regeneration of Manchester city centre following the terrorist bombing in 1996. She is also a non-executive director of Berkeley Group and a visiting Professor at Sheffield Hallam University. She is a chartered surveyor and town planner who specialises in regeneration and was awarded a CBE for services to urban regeneration in 2004.

Welcoming the appointment, Sir Stuart Hampson, chairman of The Crown Estate, said: "As the ODA Director leading on design, regeneration and sustainability, Alison has played a key role in delivering the multi-award winning Olympic Park and has made a huge contribution to the success of London 2012. She is commercially astute with a strong track record of delivery, working in the public and private sectors. Her skills and values are an extremely good fit with our business."

Roger Bright, chief executive of The Crown Estate added: "I am delighted to be handing over the reins to someone who has such a strong pedigree. I am very confident that Alison is the right person to take The Crown Estate into the next stage of its evolution and advance the success of the business even further. I wish her the very best, for what has been for me, a challenging yet rewarding job for the past decade at the helm. I will be carefully managing a transition plan with Sir Stuart and Alison as we move towards my stepping down at the end of the year, so the business doesn't miss a beat."

On being named as the new chief executive, Alison Nimmo said: "I've had one of the best jobs in the industry over the past eight years. It's been hugely satisfying seeing the London 2012 vision now turned into reality in such a short space of time and transforming the East End. It's been a great team effort and a real success story for UK PLC.

"It is such a privilege for me to be joining The Crown Estate. I am absolutely thrilled to have been selected to lead such a high performing organisation that drives commercial returns within a culture of quality, sustainability and stewardship. I look forward to building on the great work of Roger and his management team to ensure that The Crown Estate continues to flourish and lead best practice."
