Dollar Bay

Lawn House Close, London E14 9YJ

Description of Dollar Bay

Dollar Bay is a new 31-storey residential tower development in Canary Wharf, London E14.

Designed by the internationally-acclaimed Ian Simpson Architects, Dollar Bay will offer a range of studio, one, two and three bedroom homes, each of which will enjoy an enclosed ‘winter garden'. A three-storey penthouse will boast 360-degree views of London.

The waterfront site on the Isle of Dogs was acquired from Londonewcastle on 4 April. The £90 million scheme will create 115 homes for private sale and 10 for shared ownership.

Dollar Bay originally received planning permission in March 2012 and construction began in early 2014, with delivery expected in summer 2016.

One Housing Group, is co-developing the scheme with Mount Anvil through its private development arm, Citystyle Homes. It will be using part of its share of the profit to develop new affordable homes on nearby Thomas Road. The Thomas Road site will create 64 new homes (43 social rented, 16 shared ownership and five private sale) under a separate contract and will be constructed by Higgins.

Dollar Bay is nearly sold out, with only penthouses and a final few apartments remaining, says Mount Anvil.

Designers at Suna Interior Design talked about the inspiration behind the show apartment:

"In terms of particular designers or eras inspiring this scheme, there is craftsmanship, clean lines and functionality reminiscent of the Bauhaus movement, but this is tempered with elements of the warm and whimsical from contemporary design genius Marcel Wanders and Italian design house Porada.

"The palette takes the seductive, warm berry colours of Dollar Bay’s marketing material, the steely greys and blues of the exterior landscape, inky indigo and splashes of cool, contemporary metallics. Luxurious, tactile fabrics with handcrafted details add sumptuous warmth and character.

"Perhaps the most striking fabric is the Hermes Jardin D’Osier, used to upholster the seating in the Winter Garden. The pattern and colour invoke a serene tropical paradise whilst drawing visual parallels with the vertical towers beyond the glass."

The finishing touches to Dollar Bay’s signature rippled glass façade are now complete, reports Mount Anvil.

The crane that has enabled and overseen the placement of this landmark tower’s 16,000 sq m of glass can now be removed.

The louvre panels, that make up the west and east sides of the crystalline tower, and enable residents to regulate temperature and airflow in their private winter gardens, will have a lifting capacity of around 500 tonnes - enough power to lift 11 Boeing 737s.

Inside, the comfort cooling system, that allows residents to tailor temperatures across their living spaces and bedrooms, is complete. Utilising innovative new technology to extract water from the dock and pass this through a heat exchange unit, we are able to cool the apartments. The water is then fed back into the dock to complete the circuit. Dollar Bay is the first building in the Canary Wharf area to incorporate this technology.

Work on the site continues ahead of schedule, with other recent milestones including the opening of the development’s second show apartment and the completion of both the concierge and the first phase of local landscaping.

Mount Anvil is also celebrating receiving both a Pride in the Job and Seal of Excellence Awards from the NHBC, and all on site are now looking forward to welcoming the first Dollar Bay residents to their breathtaking new homes overlooking the Thames, the South Dock and Canary Wharf later this month.

Mount Anvil and One Housing Group have today launched 121 spectacular new homes at Dollar Bay.

The 31-storey residential tower designed by Ian Simpson is located on the South Quay in the Isle of Dogs – overlooking Canary Wharf – and offers spectacular views of the City and the Thames which are unhindered by neighbouring buildings.

Jon Hall, Sales & Marketing Director at Mount Anvil, said: “Dollar Bay is a stunning addition to one of London’s most vibrant areas. Canary Wharf’s evolution over the last few years as a place to both live and work has been remarkable. It is now one of the hottest places in London to live and Dollar Bay, with its amazing views, offers a fantastic opportunity to purchase a home in this exciting area.”

Alan Williams, Group Development Director at One Housing Group, added: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Mount Anvil again. Dollar Bay, with its striking design, is a flagship scheme with uninterrupted waterfront views over Canary Wharf.”

Each home features Mount Anvil’s signature considered design with floor-to-ceiling windows, luxurious bathrooms complete with double-ended baths, sleek kitchens with high-gloss handleless units and top-of-the-line Siemens appliances. Enclosed winter gardens offer year-round ‘outdoor’ space with adjustable louvered windows providing residents with spectacular views all year round.

Dollar Bay also offers residents a 24-hour concierge service, private lounge, residents’ garden, gymnasium, and cycle storage. Thirty basement car park spaces are also being created.

The glass façade of Dollar Bay has been designed specifically to reflect and extend both the water and the sky. On the western façade, the winter garden louvres incline inwards and outwards to create a cascade, emulating a waterfall streaming into the dock.

The scheme will be complete by mid-2017, and represents the second joint venture between One Housing Group and Mount Anvil.
