Description of The Stage

The Stage is a mixed-use development by Plough Yard Developments in Shoreditch, London EC2.

The project consists of a new 37-storey residential tower and theatre, as well as two office buildings providing 25,000m2, ca 4,500m2 of shops and restaurants on a 2.5-acre site in Shoreditch, East London.

The Curtain Theatre: The scheme's centrepiece will be a showcase of London's second oldest Shakespearean playhouse, the 16th Century Curtain Theatre - where Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and Henry V were first performed. The remains of the Curtain Theatre dating back to 1577 were discovered some three metres below the surface of the development. The theatre and related finds will be excavated, preserved and exhibited including a 164-seat indoor auditorium. An additional 200-seat performance space will be built outside and linked to a square lined with shops, bars, and restaurants.

Imitate Modern, Mayfair’s established urban art and photography gallery, is set to take up a new residency at the Shoreditch development from October 2017.

Imitate Modern was established back in 2011, moving to Mayfair’s fashionable enclave in Shepherd Market in 2016, and has since been a springboard for a long line-up of emerging artists, as well as turning the spotlight to cherished household names.

Exhibitions range from internationally acclaimed solo shows to debuts of talented new artists, but Imitate Modern’s goal remains ever the same: ‘to help their artists build interesting and enriching collections, and most of all, enjoy art in the most engaging way possible.’

Global luxury fitness brand Equinox will be opening a new club at The Stage development in 2019.

“With the sustained success of our Kensington club, the time is right to strategically grow the Equinox portfolio throughout Central London”, said Jeffrey Weinhaus, Equinox Chief Development Officer.

Award-winning designer Joyce Wang will bring a luxurious point-of-view to the club’s interior, while acclaimed architecture firm Woods Bagot will build out plans to preserve original details of the historic building, fusing old and new to create a unique backdrop for this exclusive experience.

Amenities at The Stage will include group fitness studios, yoga, Pilates and a cycling studio equipped for The Pursuit by Equinox, an award-winning, immersive and highly competitive cycling class.

Acclaimed Equinox group fitness instructors will lead a variety of innovative group fitness offerings, such as The Cut, a cardio forward boxing class set to the beat of the music, MetCon3, Tabata, and more. The facility will house the Spa@Equinox, featuring a menu of offerings to rejuvenate and pamper the body. Equinox Shoreditch will also be home to the Shop@Equinox and a café, as well as lounge areas to gather and work, hold meetings or socialise, offering a functional addition within the community.

Knight Frank represented Equinox in the lease acquisition.
