The Stage is a 540,000 sq ft mixed-use development by Plough Yard Developments in Shoreditch, London EC2.
The project consists of a new 37-storey residential tower and theatre, as well as two office buildings providing 25,000m2, ca 4,500m2 of shops and restaurants on a 2.5-acre site in Shoreditch, East London.
The Curtain Theatre: The scheme's centrepiece will be a showcase of London's second oldest Shakespearean playhouse, the 16th Century Curtain Theatre - where Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and Henry V were first performed. The remains of the Curtain Theatre dating back to 1577 were discovered some three metres below the surface of the development. The theatre and related finds will be excavated, preserved and exhibited including a 164-seat indoor auditorium. An additional 200-seat performance space will be built outside and linked to a square lined with shops, bars, and restaurants.
