St Mary's Church
Key Details
Overview
St Mary's Church is a Grade II listed building in Somers Town, London NW1.
St Mary's Church, part of the Church of England's Catholic tradition, has been central to its community for almost two hundred years, influencing local social housing initiatives in the early 20th century.
The church hosts a key weekly event, the Sung Parish Mass on Sundays, attracting a diverse congregation. It also runs a Kids' Club during the Mass and supports community interaction afterwards.
The church aims to provide a peaceful space for the public, with weekday Masses in the Holy Family Chapel.
Designed by Henry William Inwood and built between 1824 and 1827, it initially served as a chapel of ease for St Pancras Old Church. The chapel, attended by Charles Dickens in his youth, underwent significant interior redesigns in the late 19th century, including the addition of a chancel in 1888. It was designated a Grade II listed building in 1954.
The Magdalen Centre Hall facility at St Mary’s Church is available to hire for meetings and social events.
