Overview

Premier Inn Southwark, also known as New Marlborough Yard, is a mixed-use building in London SE1.

274-bedroom hotel between Ufford Street and the Lewisham Southwark College Building.

The development will also include Whitbread’s latest Bar + Block restaurant format and high-quality public realm consisting of a public courtyard and pocket park.

Two blocks of accommodation, connected via a glass bridge, will contain the Premier Inn bedrooms and Bar + Block restaurant and the courtyard will feature seating, sculptures and landscaped green spaces.

Construction of the proposed development started in Summer 2018 and completed in 2020.

The development has been designed to achieve a BREEAM Excellent energy rating.

History

Construction of the hotel commenced in July 2018, with contractor Gilbert Ash targeting Practical Completion in April 2020. The Premier Inn and Bar + Block Steakhouse are expected to open in Autumn 2020. The main structural frame of the hotel has now been completed, marking a major milestone in the delivery of the project.

2019 - On Wednesday 21st August 2019, Frogmore hosted a Topping Out Ceremony at its 274-bedroom ‘New Marlborough Yard’ hotel development on The Cut. The UK Real Estate specialist was joined by LaSalle Investment Management and Whitbread, who will operate the hotel under its Premier Inn brand, including a Bar + Block Steakhouse.

2017 - The development was acquired by Frogmore. In June the developer announced that a pre-let for a 250/305 bed hotel has been secured.

2016 June - planning permission granted for two buildings designed by Haworth Tompkins with 60 residential homes and 8,000sqft of commercial space. SciEntia.1 was to feature green courtyards, roof gardens, a new urban square and a leafy pocket park at its centre.
