Overview
Royal College of Surgeons' Barry Building is in Lincoln's Inn Fields, London WC2.
The new headquarters for Royal College of Surgeons' will be a meeting point for the fellows, members and associates – and a place for the public to engage with the surgical profession. New zones will include a professional surgical centre (including facilities for courses and exams); the Hunterian Museum; the Lumley Library; state-of-the-art meeting rooms; areas for all our members; surgical specialty association facilities; office zones; and a new public entrance and café.
Grade II* listed building from 1839.
History
1835-39 rebuild by Charles Barry of George Dance the younger's Royal College of Surgeons' of 1806-13, re-using the Ionic portico.
2017 - Planning permission granted for: Partial demolition, refurbishment and redevelopment of the Royal College of Surgeons (Barry Building: 39-43 Lincoln's Inn Fields) to provide new accommodation for the College (Class D1); including alterations at roof level and a new building comprising 2 levels of basement, ground and six upper floors, set behind the retained front facade and range of the Barry Building. Installation of associated plant and equipment; alterations to the front forecourt of the building to provide level access and cycle parking; and associated works.
