Catalyst and Swan Housing Group have taken handover of the Webbs Industrial site in Waltham Forest from the Greater London Authority (GLA).

About 330 new affordable homes and 3,000 square metres of affordable workspace and artists’ studios will be created.

In 2016, the Mayor instructed the GLA to buy the former Webbs Industrial Estate – a plot of land which had stood derelict for seven years – with the intention of finding a development partner to build more new and genuinely affordable homes for Londoners. Catalyst was chosen by the Mayor to develop the scheme, now known as Blackhorse Yard.

Catalyst will work in collaboration with Swan Housing Group and architects C.F. Møller Architects to deliver the new development, creating a new and exciting place in the heart of the Blackhorse Road area.

Tom Titherington, Executive Director of Property and Growth at Catalyst, commented: “The Blackhorse Yard development is an excellent example of collaboration, with Catalyst, Swan Housing Group and the GLA working together to deliver genuinely affordable homes for Londoners. The new scheme will be a new destination for Waltham Forest, providing modern retail space as well as new affordable workspace and artists’ studios for the area’s creative industry.”

Geoff Pearce, Swan’s Executive Director of Regeneration and Development, added: “We are delighted to have taken handover of the Blackhorse Yard site and to be working with Catalyst and the GLA to bring about this transformative scheme which will not only make a contribution to Waltham Forest’s Borough of Culture activities but also will deliver circa 330 affordable homes to meet housing need”.
