Mace has been chosen to be the main contractor to build the first element of the second phase of the residential development at East Village, the former Athletes’ Village for London 2012.

East Village is already home to more than 6,000 residents across 2,818 homes, with planning consent for further phases in-line with the 2005 Stratford City Masterplan. Located adjacent to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, East Village is a major regeneration project for the area, delivering a wide range of high quality residential and retail spaces. Due for completion in 2018, the work comprises two towers, at 30 and 26 storeys plus ground, with 482 residential homes, on land next to Celebration Avenue and Victory Park. Delancey and Qatari Diar are joint developers for the project, and Get Living London will manage the properties upon completion.

Mace has had a longstanding and significant role in London’s Olympic journey, having started on site as delivery partner for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Following the Games, Mace was subsequently awarded the role of project manager for the London Legacy Development Corporation, responsible for the post-Games transformation of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Having procured the Tier 1 contractors for this work, Mace is setting the standards for quality of design, construction and urban planning.

Stafford Lancaster, spokesperson for Qatari Diar Delancey, said: “Mace has demonstrated its expertise through its work on both the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the LLDC’s ongoing transformation of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. We are looking forward to seeing how the team will bring this expertise and local knowledge to these new homes at East Village, further building on the strong residential legacy we have already achieved.”

Mark Reynolds, Chief Executive at Mace, said: “This is a fantastic appointment for Mace as this development forms an important part of a legacy that is very close to our hearts, having worked on the London Olympic project from the beginning. I am delighted that we are now able to bring our residential expertise and focus on innovation and high-class delivery to East Village.”

Mark Buckle, Director for Mace, said: “Our commitment to the Games lives on, and we are keen to make sure its legacy thrives. The residential sector is at the hub of Mace’s construction business and we are delighted to have been appointed to deliver one of the most prestigious residential developments in London.”

Neil Young, Chief Executive, Get Living London, said: “We’re excited that these new homes will bring further regeneration, more residents, additional retail and commercial amenities and a greater buzz to our growing neighbourhood. During construction we are committed to working closely with Mace to mitigate the impact on East Village residents as far as possible and we continue to keep residents updated as construction activity progresses.”
