The City of London Corporation has announced that The Mansion House outside Bank junction will undergo a full external restoration.

Conservation works to the exterior of the Grade I listed building will see repairs, cleaning and the installation of a new energy efficient lighting system.

The project will improve the appearance and overall condition of the building and the City Corporation will commission architectural and lighting consultants to deliver the work.

The City of London Corporation aims to complete the project by October 2020.

Lord Mayor, Peter Estlin, commented:
“This work will future-proof The Mansion House, improve its appearance and enhance this important historical Grade I-listed building.

“This unique building provides a spectacular setting for school visits, charity fundraising events, major conferences, business meetings, receptions and dinners.

“Over 50,000 people visit every year including cabinet ministers and heads of government from around the world. This restoration will ensure the building continues to play a leading role in UK public life and maintain its historical importance in the City.”
