Planning permission has been granted for Grand Union Phase 2, reports architect Sheppard Robson.

The development will deliver 524 new homes and landscaped public realm set along the historic Grand Union Canal.

Planning permission has been granted to the second phase of the Grand Union masterplan, which will create a new community with over 3,000 homes. Phase 2 will feature a mix of private and affordable homes (37%)—including affordable rent and shared ownership tenures—at the former Northfields Industrial Estate in the London Borough of Brent.

The design delivers 950m2 of landscaped public realm, including podium gardens and designated play space, with private roof terraces for residents, as well as brown roofs and wildlife-friendly planting to promote biodiversity and sustainability. A canal-side path provides an idyllic recreational route running parallel with the line of the canal, while a seating terrace offers opportunities for dining, relaxation and socialising with water-front views.

Alan Shingler, Partner at Sheppard Robson, commented: “Our approach to this site delivers high quality residential offer, arranged to enable a welcoming public realm and optimise the site’s natural assets for the benefit of this new neighbourhood, while anticipating and connecting the Grand Union Canal’s future phases of development.”
