Last day as FT HQ

Financial Times has said farewell to its Southwark Bridge headquarters of 30 years.

Andrew Hill, Management Editor of Financial Times, said: "I moved to One Southwark Bridge — “Horseshoe Court” as it was first and briefly known because of its unusually shaped footprint — in 1989, my second year as a Financial Times graduate trainee. Even taking into account almost 10 years spent since then in foreign postings in Brussels, Milan and New York, I have spent more time at OSB than in any other building.

It is not a building that inspires affection, let alone love. Asked to make a professional judgment, our then architecture correspondent wrote in 1989 that “as a tinted glass box with a cheap-looking blue metal roof [later painted grey] it keeps its virtues hidden until you reach the interior”.

FT moves back to its old offices at New Bracken House.
