Mace has completed The JJ Mack Building office development near Farringdon station.


The 200,000 sq ft scheme by Helical plc and Ashby Capital at 33 Charterhouse Street offers 10 floors of technology-enhanced office space including three terraces and extensive views across central London.


Incorporating smart building technologies and various measures to enhance its sustainability, the building is an example of a forward-thinking building design. All working environments can be operated and controlled via a dedicated app, allowing building users to control heating, cooling and lighting, and monitor energy usage and occupancy levels to minimise the building's environmental impact.


A 3D ‘digital twin', powered by data collected from building sensors, drives its systems to adapt and provide an optimal environment for occupiers, monitoring air quality and CO2 levels.


The development will have an A-rated Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), a BREEAM "Outstanding" rating (the first building in the UK to achieve this rating at the design stage), and a 5-star NABERS rating for its commitment to sustainable operations and energy performance.


The carbon emissions during construction were kept to a minimum through low carbon materials such as ‘Earth Friendly Concrete' and sustainable design measures such as a connection to Citigen's district energy network which provides energy from renewable sources.


A real-time weather-linked dynamic water management system recycles much of the building's collected water and adjusts its capacity in response to anticipated rainfall. 144 photovoltaic solar panels that generate energy that is fed back into the grid help the JJ Mack Building offset some of its energy use. A green roof covering 885 square meters houses two bee colonies and various plant and animal species to encourage biodiversity.

Three retail units and ten office floors from 13,150 to 27,500 sq ft are available through Knight Frank and CBRE.
