Planning permission granted

The City of London’s Planning Committee resolved to grant planning permission for SQ Guernsey Limited’s (“SQGL”) planning application for the redevelopment of the Sugar Quay site. SQGL is part of CPC Group.

The 280,193 sq ft residential development located on the bank of the River Thames by Tower Bridge, will comprise 165 residential apartments across 11 storeys, a mixed use ground floor incorporating residential facilities and amenities, and a waterfront commercial unit.

Christian Candy, Founder of the CPC Group comments: “We are delighted with the outcome of the planning application. This is a unique site directly on the river and the redevelopment will make a major contribution to this part of the River Thames, whilst delivering an exceptional living experience in a prominent location in the City of London.”

World renowned London architects Foster + Partners worked closely with SQGL on the redevelopment proposals following their appointment in July 2012.

Grant Brooker, Senior Partner at Foster + Partners adds: “This is excellent news – we believe that Sugar Quay will reactivate a very significant piece of London’s riverfront and make a positive contribution to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, just 100 metres from the Tower of London. Our design uses a strong masonry palette, appropriate to the historic setting and we have articulated the building’s simple linear form with a series of bays and a number of roof levels that gradually step down towards the river. We have had great support from the City of London and together with our client SQGL we look forward to delivering our shared vision for this wonderful site.”
