Grand opening

The Central line began running at Liverpool Street in 1912, with an extension of the line from Bank. Liverpool Street served as the eastern terminus of the Central line until after the Second World War. In 1946, an extension to Stratford opened as the first stage in an electrification process that extended the line to Ongar (the eastern terminus of the line has since been moved to Epping).
