Coming soon

Construction is now underway at Weston Homes' new waterside development Town Quay in Barking. The launch date is set for the Summer of 2024.

The £50 million (GDV) mixed-use development by Weston Homes will create 147 new build one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, with 42% affordable housing and 10,764 sq ft of commercial space.

Located off Abbey Road and covering over 60,600 sq ft, Town Quay’s sustainably designed homes and ground floor commercial space are located in three new buildings set around a public plaza overlooking the Mill Pond and River Roding.

62 of the 147 new homes will be affordable housing for people living and working in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, delivered in partnership with Be First London. 29 of the affordable apartments are rented units and 33 Shared Ownership.

Designed by PRP Architects (Coppermaker Square E20, Canada Gardens HA9), Town Quay will reconnect the town centre to the waterfront. The architecture of the three striking new buildings, one 11-storey and two 7-storey, has been inspired by the adjacent mill and maritime buildings, featuring pitched roofs with dormer balconies, industrial warehouse-style brick facades in contrasting colours, floor-to-ceiling windows, large balconies and colonnaded raised ground floors.

On the ground floor of the buildings, there are parking bays and cycle storage and planned food and beverage commercial units, workshops and artists’ studios.

The new homes at Town Quay will have open plan living areas, opening onto balconies or terraces, and are finished to the highest specification. Contemporary kitchens by Oakwood Kitchens come with quartz stone worktops and splashbacks, integrated appliances and instant boiling and cold filtered water tap; the luxurious bathrooms feature Arctic white suites and walk-in Fascino smart showers or bathtubs. All homes come with superfast full-fibre broadband.

Town Quay development is just along the waterfront, immediately to the south of another Weston Homes site, Abbey Quay. The new £350 million (GDV) 6-acre riverside urban village will create 1,089 apartments, expansive public amenity space and 22,281 sq ft of commercial retail and leisure opportunities.

This ambitious scheme, built on a brownfield site, won the prestigious Gold award for ‘Best Sustainable Development’ in the 2023 WhatHouse? Awards, in recognition of Weston Homes’ trailblazing British Offsite UNisystem.

This ‘fabric first’ approach to building, based out of two dedicated UK factories, exceeds U values for the Future Homes Standard, and is aligned with Barking and Dagenham Council’s goal to be carbon neutral by 2030.

Weston Homes also reaffirmed their position as a leading UK housebuilder by taking home the Gold award for ‘Best Medium Housebuilder’ at the WhatHouse Awards? 2023 for the second year running.

Together, Town Quay and Abbey Quay form part of one of the UK’s most exciting regeneration projects, Barking’s new riverside quarter

It’s why The Times has singled out the town as a new East London hot spot, and one of the top 12 best places to buy a first home in the UK. Its newfound desirability is enhanced by its status as London’s most affordable borough, plus excellent transport links including a new Overground station and a new pier for river bus services.

Suzanne Aplin, Group Sales and Marketing Director at Weston Homes, commented: “We are delighted to announce the launch of our new development Town Quay for the summer of 2024, which in partnership with Barking and Dagenham Council will provide not only a large number of private market sale homes, but a significant number of affordable homes. The new scheme joins our other development in Barking, the award-winning Abbey Quay, adding to our offering in what is one of London’s most exciting and up-and-coming destinations.”
