1 New Street Square has been awarded the City of London Considerate Contractor Scheme Highly Commended Gold Award. The McGee project team collected the award at a ceremony on 23rd May at Plaisterers’ Hall, One London Wall.

The Considerate Contractor Scheme encourages contractors working in the City of London to carry out their work in a safe and considerate manner. The Gold Award recognises those sites that meet and exceed all the requirements of the Scheme. The decision to award 1 New Street Square with a Highly Commended Gold Award was based on a demonstration of the highest standards and consideration towards a variety of areas including; safety, the local community, general public, the workforce and the environment.

McGee has been working on the 1 New Street Square project on behalf of Land Securities since early 2013. The project has required McGee to carry out decontamination, demolition and civil engineering works in readiness for a new development – from asbestos removal and soft strip to the demolition of the existing buildings and extensive groundworks to prepare the site for the next phase of construction.

The project team and everyone at McGee are delighted to see this major project getting Gold Award recognition. Marc Byrne, Head of Community Liaison, said: “We are committed to changing the perceptions of our industry and to receive the Gold Award in acknowledgement of the entire team’s efforts is a tremendous accolade.”

The site is being transformed and is set to become a major new extension to New Street Square – one of the most exciting mixed-use developments to be completed by Land Securities in recent years.
