Fairview New Homes has applied for planning permission to transform Phoenix Works in Broomfield Street, Poplar E14, into a development of 162 new apartments.

Phoenix Works is located on the junction of Broomfield Street and Upper North Street, opposite Bartlett Park, and one side of the site fronts onto the Limehouse Cut Canal.

Industrial buildings on the Phoenix Works site are set to be demolished to make way for Fairview’s scheme. The 0.43 hectare site currently comprises industrial buildings and a service yard.

Subject to approval of their plans, Fairview will build a collection of 1 to 4-bedroom apartments on the site and will name the development Phoenix.

The proposals include 32 undercroft and surface car parking spaces and a central landscaped courtyard.

The development will comprise 8 apartment blocks, varying in height from 3 to 16 storeys. Where possible, apartments will be dual or triple aspect, taking advantage of views over the park, canal and the landscaped internal courtyard, while some apartments will look out towards Canary Wharf.

Jim Holliday, Sales and Marketing Director for Fairview, said: “We are pleased to have acquired Phoenix Works and have put forward plans to overhaul the site by creating a development which we believe will be a quality addition to Poplar.

“Our scheme has been carefully designed to make use of high-quality, contemporary materials and architecture which are appropriate to the local area.

“Our development, Phoenix, will provide a mix of new homes to help meet demand locally and will also bring financial contributions to the area through a Section 106 agreement which we will enter into with Tower Hamlets Council.

“We await the determination of our planning application and look forward to bringing forward our proposals for the site in the near future.”
