Planet Organic will be opening its 12th store at Newham's Yard development this autumn.

The UK’s leading organic supermarket has taken a 3,264 sq ft ground floor unit on a 15 year lease for a new grocery store and a café. Planet Organic is the largest organic food and speciality health retailer in the country and has operated since 1995, the UK’s first to be fully certifiable organic.

The £140m courtyard development by developers Galliard Homes and Acorn Property Group is coming to life, with the first building complete and the second due to complete shortly, with both residential and commercial tenants moving into their new homes.

KALMARs and Union Street Partners, are marketing the remaining commercial space which comprises seven units on 18,186 sq ft. Over 50% is now either let or under offer. With direct access on to Bermondsey Street, the commercial offering has flexible use and allow for either offices, retail, or food and beverage use.

The deal with Planet Organic was negotiated by Dane Cummings, Head of Commercial Property at Acorn Property Group who commented: “We are in discussions with other exciting occupiers who will only add to the vibrancy of Newham’s Yard. We are delighted that a new Planet Organic store will be opening this Autumn, providing sought-after organic food, as our courtyard development comes to life. The surrounding area has a wonderful array of restaurants, bars, galleries and coffee shops but there is no specialist supermarket with a similar offering to Planet Organic, the new store is set to be a huge asset for the local area.”

Ben Thomson, the Chair of Planet Organic, added: “Newham’s Yard is in a great location for Planet Organic with its busy mixture of community, commuter and tourist shoppers, drawn to the area by the markets, the river, Tower Bridge and countless offices. The area has a well-deserved reputation for excellent food and Planet Organic’s healthy and nutritious offering will add to that.”

David Galman, Sales Director at Galliard Homes said: “Newham’s Yard is set in a fantastic location just moments from the iconic Tower Bridge, and adjacent to Bermondsey Street, an established sought-after, bustling location. Building homes with access to excellent amenities is not a buzz word it is a key part of a buyer considering their property purchase. We were keen to create new homes and bring amenities that complement the surrounding community, thinking holistically about what buyers will want.”

The development includes 86 apartments, an apart-hotel, commercial and retail space, located just 650 metres from the iconic Tower Bridge. Studio suites, 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom apartments, some with balconies, have been very popular with buyers and Phase 1 sold out while Phase 2 is 65% sold.

A new Show Apartment is launching this autumn to showcase the final collection of homes available. Buyers are invited to an Open Day on Saturday 18th September 2021 between 11am and 5pm, which is coinciding with the popular Bermondsey Street Festival. There will be guided tours of the show apartment and available units.

Every buyer at Newham’s Yard will receive a 3-year free membership to Zipcar and £60 driving credit. Buyers at Newham’s Yard can also benefit from an extension to the Stamp Duty holiday until 1st January 2022, with the developers paying the first £15,000 of tax on every property bought.
