Farewell to Vogue House - End of an era for Condé Nast at No 1 Hanover Square

After 65 years, Condé Nast, the publisher of Vogue magazine, is saying goodbye to its iconic headquarters, Vogue House, as reported by the Financial Times.

In an Instagram story posted earlier this year, Sir Nicholas Coleridge, the president of Condé Nast Britain from 2013 to 2019, compared the move to the ravens leaving the Tower of London or the apes leaving the Rock of Gibraltar.

Vogue House, situated at No 1 Hanover Square in Mayfair, has been the epicenter of fashion and culture for decades. Nestled between Sotheby's, Claridge's, and the Apple store, the building boasts a prime location. Designed by Yates, Cook & Darbyshire, the renowned Art Deco cinema architects, in the 1950s, the structure sadly remains unlisted, raising concerns of potential demolition and replacement with a modern, less-inspiring edifice.

The building itself is a testament to its glamorous past, with magnificent typography engraved on the architrave above the entrance and legendary revolving doors that have welcomed countless celebrities, royals, and industry leaders. The boardroom, adorned with stunning photography, has been the site of numerous memorable events, while the view of Hanover Square's gardens has provided a serene backdrop for staff.

Condé Nast is set to move to the Grade II listed Art Deco Adelphi building behind The Strand in early 2024.
