Great Portland Estates plc (GPE) has received approval from the Southwark Council for the redevelopment of Minerva House, London SE1.

The plans by Ben Adams Architects propose to refurbish and expand the existing office building. The new building is meticulously planned to align with GPE's four key pillars of sustainability with a target of achieving Net Zero Carbon status.

The commercial space will increase by approximately 53%, resulting in a total provision of 140,000 sq ft. This expansion not only revitalises the physical space but also promises to bring socio-economic benefits.

The plan includes notable enhancements to the public realm between Minerva House and Southwark Cathedral, along with the addition of a new route for the Thames Path through the site.

The project is projected to create approximately 400 new jobs across the site, making a significant contribution to the local economy.

The projected timeline for the start is Q4 2023.

Andrew White, Development Director at GPE, commented: "Minerva House is next in our development pipeline with a potential start later in 2023. The refurbishment will upgrade all existing office space, bringing it up to modern best-in-class standards, making the building flexible, adaptable, and highly sustainable for all our future customers."
