Redbridge Council has approved plans for Chapel Place, the redevelopment of Sainsbury's supermarket in Ilford IG1.

The development by Telford Homes and Sainsbury's has received a resolution to grant planning consent for the 4.82-acre site this week, growing the developer’s pipeline of Build to Rent developments.

The planning committee voted in favour of the plans submitted in July 2022. The buildings designed by HTA architects will contain in excess of 1,000 new homes, including Build-to-Rent, affordable housing and Purpose Built Student Accommodation.

There will be a new landscaped public realm, with a new public park at the heart of the development.

The scheme will be supported by new commercial spaces and a new Sainsbury’s store purpose-built to meet the needs of the new and existing communities.

Caroline Radford, Build to Rent Development Director at Telford Homes, commented: “We are delighted to have received a resolution to grant planning consent for the Chapel Place development in Ilford. The scheme will allow us to deliver much-needed news homes as well as significantly improve the public realm and commercial offering for the area, which is on the cusp of significant regeneration, driven by the opening of Crossrail. With rental demand already outstripping supply, this acquisition represents a significant growth opportunity as we continue to expand our Build to Rent pipeline. We believe this opportunity has all of the characteristics to enable Telford Homes to deliver a best-in-class product in Ilford and to deliver on our commitment to building sustainable communities.”
