The Sky Pool has been lifted into place at Embassy Gardens today by one of the largest mobile cranes in the world with a load capacity of 750 tonnes.
The 14-metre acrylic structure was shipped from Colorado to Galveston in Texas 1,000 miles on the road, before making its 3-week journey across the Atlantic Ocean, reaching its final home.
The 25-metre pool will be set at ten storeys high between two apartment buildings.
This world-first was developed by HAL Architects together with the award-winning Structural Engineers EckersleyO’Callaghan, and fabricated by world-leading acrylic fabricator Reynolds Polymer Technology, Inc.

25 apartments overlooking the world famous Sky Pool at Embassy Gardens development will be released for sale on 3rd June 2017.
The new one and two bedroom homes, located on the 10th floor or higher, offer residents luxury living in the heart of the Nine Elms regeneration area, with prices starting from £1million. As part of the launch, a number of garden apartments will also be available for purchase, starting from £650,000.
Overlooking the pool deck, the signature apartments will take full advantage of the iconic Embassy Gardens Sky Pool - a world-first in swimming pool design. The pool is entirely transparent and structure free, 25m long, 5m wide and 3m deep with a water depth of 1.2m. Designed by Arup Associates, with specialist input from Eckersley O’Callaghan and aquarium designers Reynolds, the experience is intended to replicate that of an aquarium, providing a totally unique view of the capital. At 10 storeys high, the pool links two residential buildings and allows residents to swim from one building to the next.
A private sky-deck will sit atop the two buildings, providing an enviable vantage point and incorporating a spa, summer bar and Orangery where residents can relax and take in views of London’s iconic skyline. Health and wellbeing are central to the development; apartments are designed to provide a tranquil and relaxing living environment and a variety of green and open spaces across the development include intimate garden squares and a private ravine. All communal areas will be beautifully landscaped, incorporating wildflowers and foliage to create a place of respite for residents.
The ground floor green spaces sit within the new linear park, which will form a green ribbon for the area, linking Vauxhall to Battersea Park via Embassy Garden’s Union Square. The development is just a 10 minute walk from Vauxhall Station providing prime connectivity with the capital and beyond. Transport links will undergo further improvement with the extension of the Northern Line, which will see the opening of two new stations at Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station.
In total the development will provide nearly 2,000 new homes for Londoners and the first phase of the development is already complete and occupied. The homes are designed with an ethos of craftsmanship at their core, with interior details handcrafted from high quality materials such as light-coloured oak, marble and black granite. Taking influence from Soho-loft style living and ensuring high quality finishes in every apartment, natural light will flood the apartments through floor to ceiling glass windows and open plan design creates a sense of space.
Residents will become members of the EG:LE club, an exclusive private members club which raises the bar on residential development amenities in London. The completed facilities include a private screening room, gym, yoga studio, therapy room, traditional library, lounge area and business suite – when complete residents will also have access to the world famous Sky Pool.
Sean Mulryan, CEO of Ballymore, commented: “The Sky Pool was an ambitious vision and one that has been an exciting challenge for our team of engineers, architects, designers and manufacturers to bring to life. We are looking forward to that vision becoming a reality; as the supporting buildings structures will be complete in a matter of weeks, and the pool structure is due to arrive on site at the end of the year. This will be an iconic piece infrastructure which has already generated extensive interest around the globe, and will set new standards in design.”

A substantial contribution will be donated to JDRF, the UK’s leading type 1 diabetes charity, for property sold between 25th May and 25th June 2017 at the Embassy Gardens development in Nine Elms.
For each apartment sold during the period, the developer will donate £10,000.
JDRF funds world-class research into the condition, as well as providing invaluable support to those living with it and their families. Currently, type 1 diabetes affects 400,000 people in the UK, 29,000 of which are children. It is a condition that can affect anyone at any time and occurs when a person’s immune system attacks and destroys the beta cells, which produce insulin, in the pancreas. Insulin facilitates the body’s absorption of glucose from the bloodstream, without which blood glucose levels become dangerously high. The Prime Minister, Theresa May, has publicly spoken about her own experiences of living with type 1 diabetes and has attended JDRF events.
To launch the partnership with the charity, on 24th May 2017 the developers hosted a Research Briefing and Reception event at the Embassy Gardens marketing suite.
Dean Benton, JDRF’s Director of Fundraising in the UK, commented: “We are very grateful to the developers for their fantastic gesture of donating £10,000 per property sold in the month from 25 May. The purchase of these new builds will help build on vital research into type 1 diabetes – to make a real difference for all who live with type 1 diabetes, and their loved ones.”
Jubie Wigan, whose daughter lives with type 1 diabetes, said: “Having done fundraising of my own, and knowing how far the money can go in terms of research and improving the lives of our brave little stars, I am eternally grateful to Embassy Gardens for making this pledge which could potentially raise a huge amount for JDRF. With all of our efforts combined, we really WILL make a difference”
Jenny Steen, Sales Director at Ballymore, added: “We are really excited to be announcing this partnership with JDRF, it is such a great charity that has the ability to make a real difference to so many lives. Health and wellbeing is really important to Ballymore and we hope we are able to make a make a significant contribution to the research into this condition.”
