Overview

The News Building (formerly known as The Place) is a new office building in London Bridge Quarter, London SE1.

**The nearest tube station is London Bridge.

The 17-storey development, designed by leading international architect Renzo Piano, was completed in Spring 2013. The building provides approximately 430,000 sq ft net of highly efficient office space.

Importantly, The Place forms an integral part of London Bridge Quarter which comprises the iconic Shard, a new public piazza, a new station concourse and bus station and underground retail mall. The News Building benefits not only from the excellent communications links - it sits on one of London's largest transport hubs - but also its proximity to the Shard with its range of fine dining restaurants and the Shangri-La five-star hotel, together with the whole South Bank renaissance.

The News Building offers tenants a superb work environment. It meets the most rigorous demands of modern organisations that require large, light, open and highly flexible floor space. The building provides 16 floor plates of between 21,000 sq ft and 31,000 sq ft and features naturally ventilated winter gardens on floors 3 to 12 along with a landscaped roof terrace with spectacular views of the Capital.

The office floors are arranged around a central concrete core with 360 degree full height triple glazed, 1.5m wide cladding panels. The floor plate efficiency ranges between 79% and 83%, well in excess of BCO best guidelines, while around half the floor plate is within 6m of daylight.

The News Building has an Excellent BREEAM sustainability rating. The building's active double skin façade ensures that only 12% of the sun's heat passes into the building therefore reducing the need for cooling while still maximising natural daylight. Carbon emissions are estimated to be 60% less than a typical prestige office building and equates to only 1.5% of an individual's carbon footprint per year.

The Place benefits from the high level of improvements and investment LBQ Ltd is making in and around London Bridge Station. Apart from the dramatically upgraded station concourse and adjacent bus stations there will be the public piazza that links The Place to the Shard. In addition the station works will incorporate new escalators that will lead directly to The Place's entrance from the Underground and new retail outlets.

Also known as "Baby Shard".
