Britannia
Key Details
Overview
Britannia project is a mixed-use development of a new leisure centre, secondary school and new homes next to Shoreditch Park in London N1.
The plans include:
A New State-of-the-art leisure centre was completed in 2021. Featuring two new training pools and a leisure water centre – for children and families – with water features and a flume a public café and toilets (open for use by Shoreditch Park), a six-court sports hall, crèche and soft play area, sauna and steam room, fitness suite and flexible studio spaces, 4 squash courts, 2 five-a-side pitches and 2 tennis courts. See Britannia Leisure Centre.
New Secondary School - a new, much-needed secondary school and sixth form with 1,140 places to meet demand for school places in Hackney. See City of London Academy Shoreditch Park.
New Homes - Up to 371 new homes, some will be genuinely affordable, to help meet the increasing demand for housing. The first phase of new homes offers nearly 90% for genuinely affordable social rent and shared ownership. See Shoreditch Parkside N2.
Other facilities and improvements, including a café and toilets (available to park users), a public square, new entrance to the park, and tree planting to make the area more biodiverse and green.
The new buildings are on site of the existing Britannia Leisure Centre, the existing asphalt tennis courts and the site of the Hoxton Press marketing suite.
2021 July - The new secondary school opened in July 2021.
2019 - Construction at the leisure centre and school started in early 2019.
2018 - Planning permission granted for the development. The London Borough of Hackney was advised by Tibbalds Planning and Urban Design.
