Carpenters Estate
Key Details
Overview
Redevelopment of the Carpenters Estate - a 28-acre estate from the 1960s next to Stratford station and Westfield Stratford City.
The Carpenters Estate outline Masterplan will deliver 2,172 high-quality homes, of which 50% will be affordable homes.
Over 300 existing homes (44 per cent) on the estate will be retrofitted to the highest standard as Stratford becomes Newham’s first ‘Green Zone’ neighbourhood.
The masterplan includes over 10,000 sqm of commercial space and local amenities for cafes, restaurants, shops, and ‘makerspace’ workshop spaces to widen opportunities and create jobs. It will also create better connections for the Carpenters Estate with a clear route to the new step-free access entrance at Stratford Station opening soon.
Newham Council is the majority freehold owner of the estate, with part being owned by the Worshipful Company of Carpenters.
History
The Carpenters Estate was built in the 1970s and in 2022 there are 710 homes, 434 in three high-rise blocks (James Riley Point, Lund Point and Dennison Point), and 276 in low-rise blocks and terraced houses.
