To celebrate Kingsgate’s completion and occupation, people from Catalyst Housing, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and the building’s constructors Willmott Dixon joined friends and colleagues from the range of organisations that helped design and build Kingsgate, on Monday 20th October. At the event, some of Kingsgate’s residents spoke about how living in their new homes had helped transform their lives, as well as showing attendees around their homes.
Speaking at the celebration event, Rod Cahill, Catalyst’s Chief Executive said:
“If you are lucky, you could rent a 2-bed flat in the local area for just under £2,000 per month, but average rents are a wallet-busting £2,700 per month. Catalyst is delighted to have worked with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Willmott Dixon to enable 43 local households to move into their high-quality and low-cost new homes on the Kings Road.”
The Leader of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Councillor Nicholas Paget-Brown attended the celebration, along with local ward councillors. He said:
“Kingsgate House provides some much needed affordable housing in Chelsea and shows the success of these types of collaborations which the Council is undertaking more and more. I am delighted to see the high quality finish of these homes, the sustainable design and the fact that many of the homes are suitable for people with a wide range of disabilities. I was very pleased to meet a number of residents at the launch and hope that everyone who lives there will enjoy doing so.”
Charlie Scherer, chief operating officer at Willmott Dixon, said:
“Kingsgate House is the latest opportunity for Willmott Dixon and Catalyst to deliver high quality, affordable homes in London, a partnership that has resulted in many hundreds of homes being built in recent years for London’s growing population. We are all very proud of Kingsgate House and are delighted to see it provide affordable living in the heart of London.”
