Gatehouse
Key Details
Overview
Gatehouse is a residential-led building in Kensington, London W8.
A plaque on the façade commemorates its role, between 1916 and 1946, as the site of the Dunhill pipe and tobacco factory, which backed onto the British firm’s then flagship store at 137-143 Notting Hill Gate. The plans of the building, along with much of its documentation, were believed to have been lost during a World War II bombing raid in the area in 1941, but local knowledge records the factory was a major employer in the area between the wars, shaping this part of London’s interwar identity.
Residents of Uxbridge Street get the best of cosmopolitan London life. Part of a tight-knit community of Hillgate Village residents, they enjoy the pretty, pastel-hued house-lined streets which form part of the Kensington Conservation Area.
In early 2023, Dexters is selling a two-bedroom apartment here for £1.5 million.
