BCO awards London’s finest workplaces

Buildings across the capital have been recognised for excellence in the British Council for Offices’ annual London and South East Awards.

Over 500 property professionals gathered at the Marriott Grosvenor Square on Tuesday 24 May 2011, to hear who had won Awards in this year’s London and South East competition.

Highlights include The Angel Building being named Best Refurbished/Recycled Workplace for its innovative and distinctive transformation of a tired, lumbering early 1980s building into a quality office space that maximises light and space. The building incorporates an impressive roof terrace and lush street level greenery.

North House, in Westminster, scooped up the award for Best Project up to 2000m2 with a large scale refurbishment to make the historic building fit for purpose for the 21st Century, whilst celebrating, rather than ignoring, the age and style of the building.

Neil Thompson, Portfolio Director at Great Portland Estates and BCO Judging Chair for London and the South East, said:

“The focus of the BCO awards is to judge buildings from a multi-disciplinary point of view, placing an emphasis on aspects such as architectural flair, sustainable and economic construction with fitness for purpose for users of the space. We had a very high standard of entries once again this year, with the winners across London and the South East delivering fantastic workspaces for the end user and I’d like to congratulate our winners.”

“This is the third year for the BCO regional awards and we’re excited to see the bar raised by this year’s entrants. The competition was fierce, with London proving once again that they are at the forefront of top quality design and functionality.
