How did they do?

The house where Vincent van Gogh lived from 1873-1874 was sold at the Savills national auction for £565,000. Van Gogh’s stay at Hackford Road is recorded with an English Heritage blue plaque. In addition, to commemorate the fact Van Gogh lived here, the Van Gogh Museum of Amsterdam produced a gold medal and presented it to the current owners which will be given to the new purchaser. Russell Taylor, Savills Auctions commented, “we had a number of bidders vying for the property but the winning bid was to an arts enthusiast who had a great admiration for Van Gogh.”

The national, international and regional coverage for this property was overwhelming with radio stations and news crews from across the globe wanting to get a glimpse of the former residence of Van Gogh and also filming at the auction.

The auction itself was another triumph, with a success rate of 88% and raising £35,740,450.
