London Retail Street Vacancies: Oxford Street

Written on .

Oxford Street in London is Europe’s most dense and busiest shopping street. It is home to big department stores, many brands’ flagship shops and hundreds of small traders. Altogether there are more than five hundred shops on Oxford Street (Wikipedia).

The opening of the new Westfield shopping centre back in 2008 was seen as a threat for many Central London high streets but nothing seems to have changed – the crowds have not abandoned Oxford Street.

The location is just too convenient for the tourists – across the road from Hyde Park and intersecting with other important shopping streets, such as Regent Street and Tottenham Court Road.

The current Crossrail works on the street and the surrounding areas are no doubt stressful for the retailers but when the new station opens, Tottenham Court Road at the end of Oxford Street will be one of the most important transport hubs in the West End.

Oxford Street runs for about 1,5 miles (2,5km) from Marble Arch to the intersection of Charing Cross Road and Tottenham Court Road.

Let us look at the few premises that seem to be available to let on this popular shopping destination.

527 Oxford Street
Brand new retail development next to Primark flagship store in Marble Arch. 15 000 sq ft of space available in Summer 2011. Contact Cushman & Wakefield or Capital Retail for details.

Park House
The largest development on Oxford Street for 40 years by Land Securities will have eleven retail units (8,140 sq m).

443-455 Oxford Street
MacKenzies Jewellery store is closing after 15 years on August 4th 2011.

The Plaza
There are several shops available in this shopping centre through Savills.

Fashion retailer Jane Norman, which fell into administration this week, had two stores on the street – (262 Oxford Street and 388 Oxford Street) but it has been reported that some stores will be bought by Edinburgh Woollen Mill. Chocolate maker Thorntons (353 Oxford Street) is also rumoured to close their 180 shops but to our knowledge these shop premises are not available at the moment.

NB! Please confirm the status of the above mentoned shops with agents as they could be under offer or let already.
